Strength, stability and independence – how homeownership makes an impact

Habitat for Humanity operates with a vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Valley is proud to support Habitat’s vision as a partner of the organization through grants, loan servicing, purchasing mortgages, serving on their boards and providing volunteer service hours.

Building stronger communities together

Habitat for Humanity partners with people in our communities to help them build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. With support from the community, Habitat homeowners achieve the strength, stability and independence they need to build a better life for themselves and their families.

Valley Bank is proud to support more than fifteen different chapters of Habitat for Humanity with grants, volunteers at home builds or assistance from our home loan professionals. One of the ways we support Habitat is by making the loan purchase process as straightforward and smooth as possible. Our home loan professionals know the value of a transparent and communicative experience when it comes to home loans. We strive to support the process without it becoming overblown and overwhelming so that it results in a positive, collaborative experience.

Last year, Valley supported Morris Habitat, Paterson Habitat, Bergen Habitat and Orlando Habitat with a total of 41 loans. Our investment in affordable housing drives local community development. Through our partnerships with neighborhood-based nonprofit organizations, we’ve helped thousands of borrowers purchase, refinance or improve their homes.

“By building with volunteer labor and offering zero-interest mortgages, we partner with low-income families to help them build equity towards stable futures,” says Dorothy Kahlau, Director of Women in Business at Valley Bank. “We welcome all people to join us as we build simple, decent, affordable houses in partnership with those in need of adequate shelter.”

The journey to home ownership

In addition to partnering with Habitat for Humanity, we continue to support homeownership efforts through first time homebuyer programs designed specifically for low-to moderate- income individuals and first-time homebuyers. We participate in over 15 federal, state and government-sponsored enterprises that offer access to home mortgages with little or no down-payment required.

Our Journey to Homeownership program offers monthly workshops to educate customers on the process of owning a home so they can be informed when making homeownership decisions. Webinars are available in both English and Spanish and first-time homebuyers can learn about the basics of home financing, determining what they can afford, low down payment options and more.
